On March 16th, 2011 at approximately 5:30pm EST, the Jetta hit 300,000 miles. What a milestone, I wish I could take credit for it but most of those miles were put on by the previous owner. The engine is 100% original with only normal maintenance done to it, as well as the rest of the car with exception to the transmission, which was rebuilt at 231,542 miles, then replaced with a 5-Speed manual by me at 296,173 miles. The 5-speed I installed had 228,280 miles on it at the time of installation, so it’s a little “younger” in terms of wear and tear, but not that far behind.

On a side note, I also managed 48 MPG on that tank of fuel, 400 miles local driving, 120 highway, on 12.866 gallons of fuel.

I’m not sure how long it will take me to hit the 400,000 mile mark, my commute to work is rather short now, I probably do more driving on the weekends than I do during the week but I did give the car to my father to take to Florida last week so that should help rack up a few miles. When he returns it should be just about time for its next oil change, it won’t need a new timing belt until it reaches 319,140 miles. I may do a few small road trips this summer, that will probably all depend on fuel prices, time and if there is anyplace I really want to go.

Maybe I’ll go buy some new floor mats to celebrate the occasion. Thanks for reading!
